And when the ad's headline cleverly weighs in on two things, the magazine's hip factor as well as the entertainer's demurrals to define his sexuality, watch out! Additional ads in the campaign featured Dame Edna, and Sarah Jessica Parker.

New York Magazine's history of gay-related covers and feature stories meant that it could speak to the gay community as a peer, not an outsider. And since New Yorkers know the magazine to be an island of cutting wit in a sea of political correctness, they deserve the same in an ad campaign.
